Yes... We have a new arrival planned I have applied for a CANINE PARTNER  Ummed and Ahhhed and really talked it through with the family Some of you will know I had a helper doggy through them before I had little Bernice. It was too much with newborn and the older children etc so he moved to live with another family So this time they know us and hopefully the process will be swift. I had my medical check this week and the gp report has gone off now. It will be lovely having a doggy again. Not sure if kipper will agree! Everyone here is excited.  Hi Jenni How exciting! I shall have a read on the link. Has it gone through? Do you have much info on your helper? Happy times. I have 2 cavalier king charles.......so much fun! A while ago I mentioned to my hubby of a doggy helper, he said why? U have me (not the same)! Keep us all posted. Jane Xxx

The process is quite in depth, You give references and wait for your turn Then you get invited for some single days at their training centre You work with the different members of staff and a variety of doggies. Then, the dog chooses you really! The next bit is a 2 week residential and then you graduate after you've been home for a few months. There are lots of commands to learn. Ps, re hubby the nicest caring person gets fed up with picking things up again and again. THe dog doesn't, s/he loves picking it up and is delighted when you do it again! I can go out on my own, the dog pulls on my gloves helps with my sleeves and off we go! how to be a velvet bulldoser

I'm so happy for you! Having a helping dog would give you more independence, at least thry are happy to help. I went on our website link last nite, I was impressed with the canine partner............no I can't have one! Keep us all up to date with your bundle of fun! Jane Xxx

Hi Jennie - wow that sounds wonderful. I looked on the link and read a few of the stories and it's inspiring. I've got a cavalier and she's so soppy and totally useless at learning commands but she's good company and I wouldn't part with her for all the tea in china. Hi Jenni What a wonderful idea!! Reading the link it's obviously changed people's lives having a helping doggy friend. I am just drooling over the puppy page!!! Hope Kipper doesn't get too jealous, animals are so therapeutic as I've found out with Freddie the cat the past year. Your new doggy pal will be wonderful for you and your family, keep us posted... These dogs are so clever, sounds wonderful, bet your daughter is really excited about it.
sorry, but who is Kipper? Is it a cat?, we once had a cat called Kipper, he was black and white. We still have his sister, she was 19yrs old in August!

I've seen these dogs on the TV, they are amazing, a welcome addition to your family, a new playmate for Bernice but most of all giving you more independence.
Will it be a labrador?
My daughter (the one in Gibraltar) recently got a labrador puppy, they've called it Marley (I think tempting fate a little after the film Marley and Me). She now calls it Marley Moo, I called it Marley Poo. I was on wee and poo clearing up duties when I was over there.......How much poo can one little doggy do???????................But he is so lovely and adorable.
You must do a blog like Naomi suggests, pictures as well please.

Thanks for the encouragement guys Kipper is our much loved moggy, ginger tabby with white vest and socks. Hes 9 but thinks he's a kitten! Most of the doggies are labs, but they have other breeds like standard poodles, labradoodles and golden retrievers. My last doggy had some beagle in him but mainly lab. They are amazing dogs When I first had one, I was walking with a stick short distances and had a borrowed power chair for as and when I needed it. How that's changed... I'm now managing steps indoors with a walker frame and wheels and in the power chair for outdoors. But we are more set up now than I would have been I think. A blog is a great idea My friend Helen dolphin qualified with her labradoodle last time with me, She's now an editor of a disability motoring magazine, and says they will carry the blog. Good eh? I've not heard for a few wks, hopefully they will get my application through panel this side of Christmas. I'm thinking I might even have a woofy in spring  how to be a velvet bulldoser

I'm so excited for you. I think Bernice might like having a dog to play with too. When I was little my mother used to foster labradors before they were trained as guide dogs. It was to get them used to children as there were 3 of us. I loved the puppies and was so sad when they had to move on. I love labradors and I think yours will be a great friend to you as well as a helper. X

A book I once read comes into my mind, think it was called "Enbrel" or is that just a biologic I was once on!!! something like that anyway, about such a type of dog belonging to a man after severe wartime head injuries I think it was. Must try to track it down, interesting..... The dog gave him his life back.

Ok The news is- I've got my first day for training booked for the end of November! That's when I meet the doggies and try out the routines and commands I've practiced. It will be exciting how to be a velvet bulldoser
